ESPF Database Resources

Introduction
The Search Box on the right provides easy access into E-rate funding data from the first year of the program (FY 1998) to the current year (FY 2005). It provides data by applicant, service provider, and individual funding requests (“FRNs”).

The FRN Database is the first of a series of E-rate database tools which are being developed for E-Rate Service Provider Forum members. Additional tools will be announced on the ESPF listserv as they become available.

General Instructions for Use

To access service provider data:
  • Click the SPIN radio button in the first line
  • Enter the service provider's SPIN in the second line
  • Select a specific state or "All States" in the pull-down menu
  • Click "Search"

To access applicant data:

  • Click the BEN radio button in the first line
  • Enter the applicant's BEN (Billed Entity Number) in the second line
  • Click "Search"
To access specific funding data:
  • Click the FRN radio button in the first line
  • Enter the FRN (Funding Request Number) in the second line
  • Click "Search"

To "drill down" into the service provider and applicant data from the initial summary table, click on the funding year, application number, FRN, or SPIN.

Saving Data in Excel Files

  1. Any tabular data displayed from the FRN Database can be extracted and saved in an Excel file for additional analysis by doing the following:

  2. Click on the "Print Version" link which appears near the upper right corner of the browser.

  3. In the Web browser, select File > Save As, give the file a name, and save it (as a Web page).

  4. Open the saved Web page from Excel. It will look just like the Web page, but the individual data elements from the table will appear in separate Excel cells.

  5. Remove extraneous Web page information by deleting rows, columns, or images.

  6. To save the resulting worksheet as a regular Excel file, select "Save As" in the File menu, give the file a new name, and save it as a "Microsoft Office Excel Workbook."
