E-rate News for the Week
July 30, 2001

The following is a summary of the E-rate News for the Week of July 30, 2001, prepared by E-Rate Central. Official SLD news appears in the “What’s New!” section of the SLD’s Web site . Additional and archived information appears elsewhere on the E-Rate Central Web site.

Wave 2 Scheduled for Release

Wave 2 of the Funding Commitment Decision Letters (“FCDLs”) for program year four (PY4: 2001-2002) is scheduled to be mailed next Tuesday, August 7. Total funding in this wave is $206.8 million for roughly 4,000 applications. The status of internal connection funding remains the same: No funding for applicants with discount rates below 85%; no final determination can yet be made for applicants at or above 85%.

Type-in Versions of Form 486 and Form 479

The Word versions of Form 486 and Form 479 (available on the SLD Web site at or on the E-Rate Central Web site at /Forms_Rack.htm) are locked. They can be downloaded and printed, but data cannot be typed directly into the Word forms.

Currently, type-in versions of these forms are available on both sites only in PDF format. (PDF files require an Acrobat Reader that can be downloaded from the E-Rate Central Forms Rack page).

By next week, a type-in Excel version of Form 486 will be available in the Forms Rack section of the E-Rate Central site. Word versions of the Form 486 and Form 479 instructions are also available.
